Ellis Rich appointed OBE in New Year Honours
Ellis Rich, CEO of Independent Music Group and the outgoing Chairman of PRS for Music has been appointed OBE in the New Year Honours list for services to the music publishing industry.
Ellis created Independent Music Group, a worldwide music publishing consortium in 1989. The group controls many copyrights including the Supreme, R & E, Beat That and JSE Music catalogues. Having started in music publishing in 1963 in Feldman’s post room, Ellis also worked for a spell at EMI. He became PRS Chairman in January 2005.
Stephen Navin, MPA chief executive commented, "This honour is fully merited and richly deserved. Ellis has given lifelong service to our industry (and in particular his indefetigable intelligent work as Chair of PRS) and his appointment to The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a ringing endorsement of his contribution to music publishing. In this bleak midwinter I glow with vicarious pride for Ellis."
Other figures from the world of music to be honoured include Colin Matthews (OBE), Howard Goodall (CBE) and Trevor Horn (CBE).
