To work alongside the Chief Executive and with other staff to:

Ensure the smooth running of the organisation; Ensure that the diverse needs of MPA members are met; and
Drive specific projects (as appropriate)

Responsibilities include:

Operational management

• Responsible for the effective and efficient organisation and coordination of the MPA office operations, procedures and resources.
• Line management responsibility for four permanent full-time staff: [Head of Member Services and Events, Member Services Co-ordinator, Classical Publishing Co-ordinator and PA & Office Administrator].
• Managing staff recruitment, terms & conditions of employment, appraisals/exit interviews, incentives, training and well-being.
• Managing requests for leave and the leave and sick leave calendars.
• Managing the MPA internship programme (two part-time internships per annum) and interns.
• Running staff meetings and other internal meetings as required.
• Supplementing and updating the office procedures manual as required.
• Liaison with external accountants.
• Budgeting and managing own areas of income and expenditure.
• Overseeing the income and expenditure of those staff for whom responsible (including monthly debtor meetings).
• Overseeing the preparation of the annual calendar of meetings and events.

Project & policy work
• Oversee the development of the new MPA Graduate Course in Printed Music Publishing
• Assist the Chief Executive as required in the management of the MPA’s involvement in the proposed Reprography Scheme for Schools.
• Spearheading the MPA’s involvement in external and cross-industry professional development, skills and education initiatives (inc representing the MPA on the UK Music Education & Skills Group).
• Manage negotiations and ongoing liaison with various user groups and other industry organisations to support or streamline the work of members.
• Initiate and manage other projects, initiatives and activities as required.
• Liaison with Higher and Further Education institutions.
• Coordinating and developing the annual MPA Richard Toeman Scholarship.
• Managing the MPA’s Equality & Diversity policy (and attend all relevant cross industry meetings).

Board, Committees & other member meetings

• Attending and taking minutes at meetings of the MPA Board and Board Advisory Group, and attending as required Finance Committee meetings.
• Administering and overseeing the Classical Publishers Committee, the Printed Music Publishers Committee, and the Education & Training Group. Specific tasks include liaising with and/or delegating to other staff as appropriate, preparation of agendas and briefing papers, reviewing minutes and securing approval, following up and implementing all decisions made at meetings.
• Primary responsibility for co-ordinating the involvement of the MPA and its members in the PRS for Music Operational Group (and related sub-groups) and MPA/PRS for Music Working Group meetings (including the co-ordination of pre-meetings).
• Planning and preparing for the Annual General Meeting of the MPA.
• Co-ordinating and chairing other regular and ad hoc sub-groups, working groups and member meetings as required.

Other
• Representing the MPA and its members at external meetings as required (e.g. UK Music, National Music Council, Music Education Council meetings).
• Liaison and relationship building with other sectors of the music business and creative industries.
• Generally providing support to the Chief Executive and other staff as necessary in this small office and attempt to help out with their telephone calls and generally in the event of any absenteeism.
• Attend MPA and external events as required.
• Speaking publicly at events on behalf of the MPA as and when reasonably required.
