Impact Magazine

Issue 7 out now

untitled image

One of the crucial questions for the future of music publishing for the coming years is whether the collective licensing system that has been in place for decades will be able to weather the digital storm and be as relevant in the 21st Century as it was when it was originally conceived to license public places and later radio and TV.

As the world’s rights societies gather in Washington, DC for the World Copyright Summit under the auspices of CISAC (the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers), Impact has decided to contribute to the discussion about the future of collective licensing by organising its own debate in London with a host of experts.

Their views will either appear outrageous, unfair or spot on, but they will certainly trigger some reaction, and much food for thought. Obviously, this is only the start of a debate and we welcome our readers’
contributions on this issue.

Elsewhere in the magazine, we spotlight Canada, a country that has delivered a whole wealth of world-class acts, but that has some serious issues to fix, not least an antiquated copyright legislation. We also celebrate the amazing songwriting talent of Buddy Holly, whose brief repertoire remains as valid and engaging as ever, even 50 years after his
untimely death. Publishers take notice: true
talent never fades away…
