Note for Note – The Music Industry Explained

Location: Travelling Roadshow around UK
Date: Dates Scheduled from April to June 2007

The MPA, in collaboration with other industry bodies (AIM, BPI, MCPS-PRS Alliance, PPL and UK Trade and Investment) is running an ongoing educational roadshow across the country, aimed primarily at those starting up in the music business. The primary aim of the venture is to offer an overview as to how the music business works, but it also aims to provide access to industry services for those in the regions, and to encourage trade body membership outside the London area.

Those attending will get to hear representatives from each of the industry partners speak about how their particular sector works, and how this ties in with the activities of the other participants as part of a functioning process which brings the creative product to market. Delegates will then have a chance to ask questions and make more detailed enquiries one-to-one with the speakers, in afternoon surgery sessions. After this there will be a short networking session. Delegates will also receive an information pack and are able to apply for membership to any industry bodies if they feel this might benefit their business model.

Some of these events will be stand-alone, but many of the dates are planned to coincide with other industry conferences and gatherings, and are incorporated with them in order to make attendance more convenient for delegates. The following dates have so far been planned for 2007:

Leeds: Monday 30 April

Newcastle: Tuesday 1 May

Brighton: Thursday 17 May – as part of The Great Escape

Inverness: Friday 8 June – as part of Go North

Attendance is free of charge (though if not a stand-alone event, entry must be gained to the main event first), and anybody is able to register. Registration details will be posted in the Events section of the website shortly before each event. If you have any further enquiries please contact Felix Taylor:
